Kenny Monday is a retired American freestyle wrestler who competed in the 1988 and 1992 Summer Olympics. He was born on November 7, 1962 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Monday won a gold medal in the 1988 Olympics in Seoul, South Korea, becoming the first African-American wrestler to win an Olympic gold medal. He also won a silver medal in the 1985 World Championships and a bronze medal in the 1987 World Championships. Monday was known for his exceptional technique and athleticism on the mat. After retiring from competition, he went on to coach wrestling at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the United States Olympic Training Center. Monday was inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in 1999.
